Periodic CleaningThe importance of a healthy mouth has been widely documented and now is supported by research, not only for your oral health, but for your general health as well. Daily cleaning helps keep plaque under control and reduces tartar formation, but it won’t completely prevent it. Have your teeth cleaned regularly at our office to reduce plaque and remove calculus from places your toothbrush and floss may have missed. Why clean your teeth?Reduce dental decay - It has been discovered that for dental plaque to reach harmful levels and cause dental decay, it must be left on the teeth for 24 hrs. When stale plaque is combined with sticky sugar containing foods, dental decay forms. Reduce periodontal disease - Dental plaque and the hardened version of plaque called tartar are some of the causative reasons for gum and bone degeneration called periodontal disease. Prevent unattractive tooth and gum appearance and reduce offensive mouth odors - If you allow plaque, food debris and tartar to form over many years, the result is an unpleasing appearance, very bad breath and the necessity to remove some teeth because of decay and periodontal disease. |
