Bleaching
What is Bleaching?
Bleaching is a tooth whitening procedure that restores stained or discolored teeth to a healthy, natural color. Bleaching is a safe, fast and easy process that is effective for almost everyone when used under the direction of a dentist.
What causes tooth discoloration?
Teeth become discolored for different reasons:
- Frequently drinking coffee, tea or colas.
- Some antibiotics may darken developing teeth in children.
- Aging - The dentin underneath the enamel of a tooth gradually darkens with age.
- Use of tobacco products.
- Accidents - If a tooth has been traumatized and requires root canal therapy, the tooth may become dark and require a procedure called internal bleaching.
Is bleaching for me?
One of our doctors will evaluate your teeth and smile to determine whether you are a good candidate for the procedure. In some cases, a different cosmetic procedure, such as crowns or veneers may better meet your expectations. It is especially helpful to brighten the post-orthodontic smile that patients have waited so long to achieve. We do not consider a patient for tooth whitening under the age of 12. |
