Root Canal

Root canal treatment is indicated when the pulp of the tooth has become inflamed, infected or has died. Root canal therapy can be performed rapidly and effectively, without any excessive discomfort.

Why do teeth die?

Deep dental decay enters, infects and kills the dental pulp. Severe long-term clenching can cause extensive tooth wear, fractures and even pulpal death. Trauma may inflame or kill the pulp.

Why does a dead tooth hurt?

When the live components of the dental pulp are infected with bacteria and the pulp is no longer alive, the dead pulpal debris and bacteria cause pain in the supporting tissues due to exit of the infection out the root end of the tooth. We can relieve this pain by removing the pulp and medicating the tooth.

What can you expect?

Root canal treatment is performed by Dr. Doyle under sterile conditions with a rubber dam and the help of a state-of-the-art microscope. Here at Chester Springs Family Dentistry, we are proud to be included in a group of only 5% of dental practices utilizing a chairside microscope for treatment.
